We found Lucky the Cow wandering in the neighboring fields near our farm. At the time, she was around 8 months old and was on her way to the slaughterhouse. She managed to break loose in her bid for freedom by somehow opening the trailer door and running to freedom. The person who was bringing her to the slaughterhouse told us that we could have her if we could catch her, and left quickly. We caught her and brought her back to the farm, where she has given birth to four calves so far. Lucky is very photogenic and bossy.
One quick note: She is a cow, not a bull. Cows normally do have horns, but are usually burned off when they are young so that the cows do not injure each other. Great care is taken to make sure that there is no pain or distress caused to the animal.
